The Portuguese Biophysical Society is an affiliated organisation of the Portuguese Biochemical Society. It was formed following a joint Biophysics Congress (1st Portuguese - Spanish Biophysics Congress) held in Lisbon, Portugal in 1995. The Society, devoted primarily to fostering education and research opportunities for young biophysicists, intends to gather a significant number of researchers with basic expertise in other areas (such as chemistry, biology, physical-chemistry) who have subsequently migrated to Biophysics, and also a new generation of researchers who have obtained training or are undertaking research in other areas of biophysics. The Portuguese Biophysical Society is a member of IUPAB ( International Union of Pure and Applied Biophysics), and EBSA (European Biophysical Societies' Association). The activities of the Portuguese Biophysical Society are primarily sponsored by the Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia, Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Portugal. The statutes of the Portuguese Biophysical Society can be found here.
